Does my employer have to pay for language training?

If the language is necessary to do your job and your employer is obliged to provide that training, it must be free of charge and study time counts as working time. This is set out in article 7:611a of the Dutch Civil Code. For other training your employer is not obliged to pay, but many employers do.

Can my employer ask for the costs back if I leave?

Not if it is mandatory training that is necessary for your role. In that case a study cost clause is not allowed. For training that is not mandatory, your employer may agree a repayment arrangement with you. Read that agreement carefully before you sign.

Can I contact Language Partners myself as an employee?

Yes. You can request a proposal and forward it to your manager or HR. That way your employer immediately has a clear picture of content, duration and cost.

Does language training count as working time?

For mandatory training that is necessary for your role, yes, and the training then takes place during working hours where possible. For other training, it depends on the agreements with your employer.

Moet mijn werkgever een taaltraining betalen?

Als de taal nodig is om je functie uit te oefenen en je werkgever verplicht is je die scholing te bieden, dan moet de training kosteloos zijn en telt de studietijd als werktijd. Dat staat in artikel 7:611a van het Burgerlijk Wetboek. Voor andere scholing is je werkgever niet verplicht te betalen, maar veel werkgevers doen het wel.

Mag mijn werkgever de kosten terugvragen als ik vertrek?

Niet als het om verplichte scholing gaat die nodig is voor je functie. Dan is een studiekostenbeding niet toegestaan. Voor scholing die niet verplicht is, mag je werkgever wel een terugbetalingsregeling met je afspreken. Lees die afspraak goed voordat je tekent.

Kan ik als medewerker zelf contact opnemen met Language Partners?

Ja. Je kunt een voorstel opvragen en dat doorsturen naar je manager of HR. Zo heeft je werkgever meteen een concreet beeld van inhoud, duur en kosten.

Telt een taaltraining als werktijd?

Bij verplichte scholing die nodig is voor je functie wel, en dan vindt de training waar mogelijk onder werktijd plaats. Bij andere scholing hangt het af van de afspraken met je werkgever.

Business language training in more than twenty languages

How it works

For these languages we put the programme together entirely on request. We start with an intake: which language, which level, how many participants and what they will use the language for. Based on that we find a trainer and make a proposal.

Our training formats

Blended: lessons with a trainer combined with the online academy, so participants also practise between sessions.
Face-to-face: all lessons with a trainer, without an online component.

We agree the scope together, depending on the starting level and the goal. Every format can run at your office, at one of our locations or online, individually or in a group of up to 8 people.

Which languages do you offer training in?
Languages including French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Swedish, Danish, Russian, Mandarin and Arabic. More than twenty languages in total. If your language is not on the list, just ask us.

How quickly can you find a trainer?
For the most requested languages, usually within a few weeks. For less common languages it can take longer, and we will let you know during the intake.

How many participants can join a group?
Up to 8 participants. For less common languages we more often work individually or in smaller groups.

How long does a programme take?
We agree that together, depending on the starting level and the goal. We work with blended and face-to-face programmes.

What does training in another language cost?
For French and Spanish the same rates apply as for English, Dutch and German: blended from 759 euros and face-to-face from 674 euros per participant in a group of 8, VAT-free. For other languages we quote a tailored price, depending on the language, the format, the group size and the duration. You receive a tailored proposal within 2 working days.

Can you also train a single employee?
Yes. For less common languages an individual programme is often the quickest route.
